Caches settings

When you enable a cache you can specify:

  • Which data stream to cache (the data source, data stream, scope, and timeframe to use).
  • How often to sync (frequency, from 5 minutes to 24 hours).
  • A cache name (used to generate the table name you can query with SQL).

Only admin users can see Settings > Data > Caches, where they can view all caches and edit any cache. Non-admin users with Full Control of the data source can manage its caches from the tile editor by clicking Edit cache on the Data Stream tab of the tile editor.

See Cache.

From the list of caches you can edit, sync or delete a particular cache.

Warning

When you delete a cache, the table and all its data (including all partitions) are permanently deleted from the warehouse, and any tiles using the cache will stop working immediately.

When editing a cache you can change the Name and Sync frequency. The table name is fixed at creation, so renaming the cache does not change it.

Use the left-hand tabs (Settings, Objects, Parameters and Timeframe) to review or change what the cache stores (the tabs shown depend on the underlying data source). The data source and data stream are shown under the dialog title.

If you change what the cache collects on the Objects, Parameters or Timeframe tabs, Save becomes Save and sync. The cache syncs immediately, and tiles that rely on columns no longer returned may stop working.

Sync Status

Status
Description
Syncing
The cache is syncing now.
Ready
The last sync completed.
Warning
The last sync completed, but data for some objects couldn't be retrieved. See Warning: Data could not be retrieved for N objects.
Failed
The last sync failed. The cache keeps the data from the last successful sync.
If the first sync for the cache failed, check the cache settings are correct, then run it again.
Not Run
The cache hasn't synced yet.
Unknown
SquaredUp can't determine the status.
Stale
Shown in the tile editor only. No sync has completed for more than twice the sync frequency.

Important

Remember that any changes will affect all tiles using the cached data stream.
