Data Sources settings

SquaredUp uses plugins to create connections to your data sources. You can see a list of your data sources in SquaredUp. For example, you might use the Azure plugin to connect to two data sources, which you name 'Azure prod' and 'Azure dev'.

See Plugins and data sources.

Data sources are managed from the Settings > Data > Data Sources page. This page provides a single place to manage all of the data sources within your organization.

Data source list

Access control

This feature is available with an Enterprise plan

Data source access control works differently to workspace access control. Access control on a data source restricts which users are allowed to link a data source to a workspace, rather than which users are allowed to read data from the data source.

Note

Access control functions per instance of a data source. Meaning that if you have multiple instances of a data source you must manage data source access for each instance individually.

Access levels

When access control is enabled on a data source, permissions are as follows:

Access level
Permissions
Link to workspace
  • User can link the data source to any workspace they have at least Editor permissions for.
  • Data from the data source can then be viewed by anyone with any access to the workspace.
  • User can share the data source data with anyone they want.
  • User cannot configure the data source in any way, or delete it.
Full Control
  • User can change the data source configuration, ACL, and delete the data source.

  • By default, the user setting the permissions for the data source is given Full Control and the Everyone group will be given Link to workspace permissions.

Administrator special access

Like workspaces, administrators have special ‘administrative’ access to all data sources. This means they see all data sources listed under Settings > Data > Data Sources, and they can modify data source properties, including the ACL, for any data source.

Note

Administrators do not have any special access to data from data sources unless they add themselves to the data source ACL.

See Managing data sources for how to configure access control.

Data source permissions

Everyone can open the Settings > Data > Data Sources page and see the data sources in the organization.

Adding a data source needs either administrator rights or a group with the Can add data sources permission. Editing, indexing and deleting an individual data source depend on that data source’s own access control, so the buttons only appear on the rows you have rights to.
