Types and Custom Types

What are types?

Every object in SquaredUp has a type. Types are usually indexed when you add a data source as they often bring new types of objects (like domain controllers, tickets, projects, alerts, incidents, etc.). You can also add custom types if you've indexed data from a custom data source to give those new objects nice looking types with an icon and the singular and plural forms of the type.

How to add a custom type

  1. In SquaredUp, browse to Settings > Types.
  2. Click on Add custom type.
  3. Add your custom type by entering the following settings:
    1. Name:
This name is just for you to be able to identify the type, it's not used anywhere in else SquaredUp. You can choose a name that helps you remember what this type refers to and why you created it.
    2. Type:
Enter the value of the type property of your objects.
    3. Icon:
Start typing to find suggestions for font awesome icons or use the link below the field to see a list of all icon names.
    4. Singular name:
The singular form of the object type's name. This name will be displayed in SquaredUp.
    5. Plural name:
The plural form of the object type's name. This name will be displayed in SquaredUp.
  4. Click Save.
